Sugar Cookie Recipes - Simple Buttermilk Cookies Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups/225 g all-purpose/plain flour

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 6 tbsp butter, cut up

  • 6 tbsp granulated sugar

  • 3/4 cup/180 ml buttermilk


Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F/180°C/gas 4. Butter a cookie sheet.

  2. Sift the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt into a large bowl. Stir in the sugar.

  3. Use a pastry blender to cut in the butter until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in the buttermilk to form a smooth dough.

  4. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of 1/2 inch (1 cm). Use a 2-inch (5-cm) cookie cutter to cut out the cookies.

  5. Gather the dough scraps, re-roll, and continue cutting out cookies until all the dough is used.

  6. Use a spatula to transfer the cookies to the prepared cookie sheet, placing them 1 inch (2.5 cm) apart.

  7. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until lightly browned. Transfer to racks to cool.
