Party Cookie Recipes - Valentine Card Cookies Recipe

Ingredients

• 2 1/2 cups/350 g all purpose/plain flour

• 2 tsp ground cinnamon

• 1 tsp baking soda

• 1/2 tsp ground cloves

• 1/8 tsp salt

• 1/2 cup/125 g butter, cut up

• 2/3 cup/140 g granulated sugar

• 4 tbsp light molasses/treacle

• 1 tbsp finely grated lemon zest

• 1 large egg, lightly beaten

• colored candy writers, to decorate

Method:

1. Sift the flour, cinnamon, baking soda, cloves, and salt into a medium bowl.

2. Use a pastry blender to cut in the butter until the mixture resembles fine crumbs.

3. Stir in the sugar, molasses, lemon zest, and egg to form a stiff dough. Press the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic warp, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

4. Preheat the oven to 375°F/190°C/gas 5. Butter a cookie sheet. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of 1/4 inch (5mm).

5. Use a 4-inch (10-cm) heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the cookies. Gather the dough scraps, re-roll and continue cutting out cookies until all the dough is used.

6. Use a spatula to transfer the cookies to the prepared cookie sheet, placing them 1 inch (2.5cm) apart.

7. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until lightly browned. Transfer to racks to cool.

8. Use various colored candy writers to pipe a message onto each cookie.
