Marbled Brownies
Ingredients
BASE:

1cup/250 g
butter, cut up

5 oz/150 g
semisweet/dark chocolate. coarsely chopped

2 1/2
cups/500 g granulated sugar

3 large eggs,
lightly beaten
-
1 cup/150 g
all-purpose/plain flour
-
1 1/4
cups/125 g coarsely chopped walnuts
-
1 tsp vanilla
extract/essence
-
1/8 tsp salt
TOPPING:
-
1 package (8
oz/ 250 g) cream cheese, softened
-
2/3 cup/140 g
granulated sugar
-
1 large egg,
lightly beaten
-
1 tsp
vanilla extract/essence
Method:
-
Preheat the
oven to 350°F/180°C/gas 4. Butter a 13 x 9inch
(33 x 23-cm) baking pan.

Chocolate-Walnut Base: Melt the butter and
chocolate in a double boiler over barely
simmering water.
-
Remove from
the heat and add the sugar and eggs, beating
until just blended. Mix in the flour, walnuts,
vanilla, and salt. Spoon the mixture into the
prepared pan.

Topping: Beat
the cream cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla in a
large bowl with an electric mixer at high speed
until smooth.

Spoon the
mixture over the chocolate base. Use a knife to
draw decorative lines across the topping.

Bake for
40-45
minutes, or
until almost firm to the touch. Cool completely
before cutting into bars.
